Sea fishing in Lanzarote is very popular and there is a wealth of opportunities to become involved in many different types of fishing whether you are a novice or a pro. Lanzarote is blessed with an exceptional climate all year round, which means that the sea temperature rarely drops below 19C in the winter months and rises to 26C during the summer. The ocean floor varies to depths of 3,500 meters which allows for some serious deep-sea fishing.
There are several types of fish that you are likely to find swimming around the Atlantic ocean that surrounds the Canaries. The Bluefin Tuna, the biggest of the Tuna family, weighs up to 1,000 lbs and is not caught without a fight as it often dives towards the ocean floor once it has been hooked. The Wahoo can be found in schools around the coastal reefs and is know for its speed and agility when its been caught.
For night time fishing the Oilfish and the Escolar are easy targets as this is the time when they rise to the surface. The Malfara shark lives between 400-600 meters below sea level and requires deep-sea fishing equipment to be caught and a lot of patience. The Blue Marlin is certainly a prize species as it can grow up to 500lbs in weight and proves a challenge for even the most experience of fishermen.
